Pastor's Pen

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The latest news flash from your church is all about stewardship! This time of year, we experience the joy of working together by caring for God’s house on Sweatshirt Sunday; by peeling potatoes and making lefse (1344 to be exact) and enjoying the wonderful fellowship; by making all the preparations for and serving the congregation’s delicious Harvest Meal. It is an intense time, full of good food, good will, and good serving. As some have said, it is church at its best.

Yet we know the serving takes place all year long and in many and various ways. From quilting to singing in the choir or praise team; from teaching Sunday School to caring for the lawn in the summer; from counting offerings and keeping the books to visiting the sick and those unable to be with us to saying a kind word and specifically proclaiming Jesus as Savior to those who need to hear. Truthfully, we serve God in ALL we do and say.  The questions for each of us become: How am I doing? How good is my serving? Is what I am doing ...

.. pointing to Jesus?

To help answer such questions is one of the reasons I ask confirmation students to fill out Service Work Cards. I want for them to connect the good things they do with their serving of God. Whatever good work any of us does involving our time, talents and possessions - those are our offerings to God. Plus, by extending ourselves in order to serve our neighbors near and far, we bring to light and make visible our love for God.

Which brings us back to the latest news flash! Thank you people of Osseo Evangelical for a job well done. I can see your love for God. May the Holy Spirit open the eyes of others to see your love as well, that they too will join with us in the purposeful joy of loving and serving God.

Better yet, why not be more explicit and active in inviting people to join with us? Be bold and show them what we live for. That will give the Spirit even more with which to work.

God Bless you in all you do!

 Intern's Insights

I am happy to report that the Tielbar family has rounded the corner; we are no longer the “New” Intern family!! With new experiences every day for me, Cathie finding her role as a pastor’s wife, and Ellie making new friends in school and discovering her love for volleyball, life in Osseo has been good. I knew we were on the right track when one night Cathie looked at me and said, “It feels like we have lived here a long time!” I have to admit that put a smile on my face!

Transitions can be difficult, and we have had our share in the last few years, yet there has been something special about our transition to Osseo and that is your willingness to walk with us on this journey in our lives. For that we are truly grateful.

            Yours in Christ,

                      Intern Pastor David Tielbar
